Getting your entrance mat installed step-by-step.

If you've ever bought an entrance mat to use in a recess, or if you're thinking about doing so, you need to put it in the right way rather than just laying it on the ground.

The entrance mats do not come with a quick setup guide, so if you don't know what to do, you might end up making a big mess. Many of our clients use our installation service to make sure their Entrance Matting is installed correctly.

So, here's what to expect when Matshop puts in your entrance mat. If you want to give it a shot for yourself, use these as a starting point.

Check the Mat Fits

Even though this seems like a simple thing to do, there have been times when we haven't done it, leaving a plain, empty space and no mat. In the worst cases, customers were initially presented with an empty recess because a brand-new mat was not immediately available.

You can either check by measuring with a measuring tape and placing the new mat over the old one. Ensure only that you check. Keep in mind that you can always cut your mat, but you can't add more. Because of this, it should be a little bit bigger than the recess.

Remove the Existing Mat

You can skip this step if the current mat was the first mat placed in the space; However, at this point, we probably need to take out the mat that is in your recess.

Use a Stanley knife to cut away at the corners to gain leverage. Pulling the corner upward and removing the portion below is the next step. Gloves are absolutely necessary for this task due to the risk of calluses and friction burn from the carpet. I greatly value it.

Smooth the Recess

Now that the previous Entrance Mats have been taken out, the recess will have a lot of old adhesive and other bits and pieces. Before filling in the well, we remove the adhesive from it with a scraper to ensure that it is as level as possible.

Try to use long, straight scrapes to remove as much as possible in a single pass. The subsequent step will be simpler if you persevere through this challenging portion.

Self-level the Recess

For the recess, purchase a self-level from Bunnings at a reasonable price. Pour it into the entire recess to level the floor. If you've never done it before, it's easy to do. Getting rid of any gaps is the most important thing.

In fact, the most important thing is to make sure there is room to step off. Do the walls on any edges of your mat break first so you can go outside without any problems? You run the risk of becoming wedged against the wall while you wait for the sun to set if you don't.

Fit the mat in the recess and trim it to size

Trim it to size after carefully lowering it into the recess! This part is easiest if the mat is slightly larger than the recess. In addition, if you did not complete step one, this is when you realize you failed!

The mat should be cut to the right size with a Stanley knife. You want it to completely fill the recess when it is laid flat on the group, with no gaps or bumps. Once the mat is perfectly fitted, lift it back out of the recess so you can apply the adhesive.

Apply adhesive and go!

For the final step, which depends on the adhesive you use, follow the packet's instructions. When the adhesive dries, your new mat is ready to use. The amount of time it takes to dry depends on the adhesive you use.

With Matshop adhesive, your mat can be walked on immediately, reducing downtime to almost nothing and significantly speeding up the installation process. Please get in touch with our sales team if you want to try it.
